Sir,

Please see the following facts in connection

with a Japanese air raid on Sha U Chung (1), Chinese

territory, that took place at 08.30 hours on the 16th June,

At 08.30 hours on the 16th June, 1940, four

Japanese monoplanes flew over Sha U Chung, Chinese territory, from the direction of Shum Chun (") and dropped 37

incendiary bombs.

They power dived on each occasion they dropped

bombs. The objective was the cargoes on the seashore. A11

bombs fell on or near to the cargoes setting them on fire. The

cargo consisted of books (Chinese), cotton yarn, piece goods,

flour, rice and motor car batteries, etc., the property of

various companies. All cargo had come from Hong Kong and was

waiting for inspection by the Chinese Customs Authorities.

This cargo was still burning at 06.30 hours on the 17th June,

No person was killed or wounded during this

raid but one Hoklo male coolie was drowned when he jumped into

the sea to avoid the bombs.

The four monoplanes then left in a "N"
